This past week I did something that I know would have made Jeff laugh. I went dumpster diving. Now for my more refined friends, that invokes visions of me as a bag lady retrieving aluminum cans out of a trash can. Rest assured, that is NOT what I am talking about. Here is the story: A company is building "luxury garages", storage for expensive RVs and such, right by my house. It is a huge facility and the garages are completely insulated with airconditioning, plumbing, cable and Internet connections. Well, they have two roll-off dumpsters in front of the facility and the other day I noticed insulation hanging over the edge. Expensive insulation. So then the next day I hopped into Dan's pick-up and drove over there to check it out. Sure enough, they are both filled with scraps of what I suspect is R-30 insulation ends and pieces. SCORE! I hopped up on the edge and loaded the big pieces into the truck and actually made two trips before it got dark. I am going back tonight if they don't haul away the dumpsters. The insulation is clean and brand new (see I told you-no worries)! So what reminds me so much of Jeff? His clients would say to him, "would you haul this to the dump for me?" Those "trash items" have included tools, furniture, camping equipment, even appliances. He loved a good "free find". So here's to you my best friend! I am following in your thrifty footsteps.
